Behind The Scenes

Yeah, I know I still don’t have any real content to my site – just the default template stuff – but I’ve been working none-the-less on website security. WordPress recommenced updating PHP, which was no small task in the Raspian OS space. There are also several PHP modules that WordPress recommends installing, a few of which still elude cooperation. I also added and configured a security plugin, together with an SMTP outgoing mail plugin with oAuth credentials to my email provider so I can receive important updates from the website. I spent a bunch of time trying to get a PHP-based database viewer/editor tool to work, but set that aside after repeated errors. Gotta say, I can appreciate the challenges of getting a website operational, and can understand why some people choose subscription websites hosted on controlled environments like Wix. So far, I’ve been able to do everything without paying any fees, but if I were paying me for my technical expertise, the cost of this website would be adding up!
